Web search and page reading tools for the assistant

Added

Your assistant can now reach the open web. Two new chat tools join the existing four:

  • Web search: searches the live web and reads back a short list of results.
  • Web page reading: fetches and reads the full content of one specific page, typically a URL a web search turned up.

Together they cover questions your catalog and connectors can't: comparing against a product outside your catalog, checking a factual claim, or pulling up independent reviews. Neither renders a card: the assistant reads the results itself and answers in its own words, with a short status shown while it works.

Both are off by default for every agent type, including Shopping assistant. Turn them on for a configuration version from the same Chat tools checklist as the existing four. To limit the risk of the assistant citing a source you'd rather it didn't (a competitor, for instance), keep in mind there's no dashboard control yet to restrict which sites these tools can reach; that's on our roadmap.
