Reopening the assistant panel right after closing it no longer hides it again

Closing the assistant panel takes a brief moment: it slides off screen, and only then does the page's background scrolling get restored. If a shopper closed the panel and reopened it again within that same moment (a fast double-click, or closing and immediately clicking to open it back up), the panel could disappear again shortly after, on its own, as if it had just closed itself.

Reopening the panel now always cancels that pending close first, so a shopper who changes their mind and reopens the panel keeps it open. Nothing to change on your side.
