The assistant now knows which page each question was asked from

Added

Until now the assistant only knew what page a shopper was on if your storefront called iadvize('set', { customData }) on that page. Most storefronts don't call it everywhere, and on those pages a shopper asking "is this in stock?" or "does it run large?" was asking about something the assistant couldn't see.

The tag now reads the page itself, with no code on your side:

  • the address, rebuilt as origin plus path, so everything after ? or # stays in the shopper's browser,
  • the title,
  • the meta description (or the Open Graph one, if that's the only one your theme sets).

It travels with each message rather than being remembered as "the current page", which means the assistant knows where every question in a thread came from. A shopper who looks at one product, moves to another, then asks "how does this compare with the previous one?" now gets an answer.

Nothing is inferred from it. No page type, no product id, no category is guessed from an address or a title: those stay values you declare, and where you declare them they still win. The title and description are hints the assistant uses to search your catalog, never facts it repeats, so it still resolves the product in your catalog before saying anything about price, stock or availability.

It's on for every site. If you'd rather it weren't, there are two switches:

  • Settings → Public access → Page signal turns it off for a whole site, instantly, with no publish step.
  • iadvize('set', { pageSignal: false }) turns it off on specific pages. Worth calling on account and order pages: themes often put a customer's name or an order number in the page title, and the title is read as it stands.

Nothing is read at all on a page you declared as checkout, and nothing is ever sent while a shopper simply browses: the page only travels attached to a message they chose to send. It's stored with that message and purged with the conversation, on the same 12-month retention.

Two more things changed alongside it. The shopper data-usage notice at /privacy/assistant/{lang} now lists this as its own data category, in plain language. And in the dashboard, a shopper message that carried a page now shows an Asked from line under it in the conversation transcript, naming that page and linking to it.

A conversation in the dashboard, where the shopper's message "Is this suitable for sensitive skin?" carries the line "Asked from Cleansing balm" underneath it, and the assistant's reply opens with "I looked at the product on that page" before recommending a product from the catalog.
